Terms
Terms of use
The conditions under which FoodProt AI accounts are issued and used. Last reviewed 11 August 2026.
1. Accounts
You create your own account with a verified e-mail address; project access is granted per project by its owner. Your account is personal to you, and sharing credentials is prohibited — the audit trail attributes every approval to the account that made it, and a shared account makes that attribution false.
Access is granted per project and per role. Attempting to reach a project you have not been granted access to, or to act outside the role you hold, is a breach of these terms.
2. Content you bring
You are responsible for having the right to use every article, supplementary file and dataset you upload or cause the platform to fetch. Most full-text articles are licensed to your institution rather than to you personally, and those licences vary in what they permit for text and data mining.
The platform will not retrieve full text where a licence does not permit automated retrieval. This platform queries five public metadata APIs directly, offers two official licensed APIs a platform owner may switch on, and reaches every other source only through your own browser. Do not use imports or uploads to route around either limit.
3. Scientific responsibility
FoodProt AI accelerates literature curation; it does not perform peer review and it does not assess the quality of the science it reads. Automated screening labels and extracted measurements are candidates. Every value that enters a verified dataset does so because a named reviewer on your team approved it, and that approval is a scientific judgement for which the reviewer and their organisation are responsible.
You are responsible for validating outputs before relying on them, for the conclusions you draw from a dataset, and for the citations in anything you publish from it. The audit trail exists to make that verification possible, not to transfer the responsibility.
4. Acceptable use
- Do not attempt to bypass access controls, rate limits or licence restrictions.
- Do not upload material you do not have the right to process.
- Do not use the platform to redistribute copyrighted full text.
- Do not attempt to manipulate the platform’s automated steps through content embedded in uploaded documents. The platform is built to resist this, and attempting it is a breach regardless of whether it succeeds.
- Do not remove, alter or fabricate provenance or review attribution on any record.
5. Availability and changes
The platform is provided as-is and as-available. Features change, and stages of the pipeline are improved and occasionally replaced. Where a change affects how existing data was produced, the run history of the affected records is retained so earlier results remain interpretable.
6. No warranty of extraction accuracy
No accuracy figure is warranted for automated screening or extraction. Accuracy depends on the corpus, on the property, on how a source reports it, and on the review effort a project applies. Per-project validation against your own labelled set is the supported way to measure it, and is described on the methodology page.
7. Suspension and termination
Access may be suspended for breach of these terms or where required to protect the platform or other users. Your organisation may remove your access to a project at any time. Audit entries recording decisions you made remain attached to the affected records, because removing them would corrupt datasets that depend on them.
8. Privacy
What is processed and where it goes is described in the privacy notice, which forms part of these terms.
9. Contact
Questions about these terms go to the organisation that runs this platform (rroni0528@sdsu.edu).
