Using your library access
What happens when a paper is behind a paywall your institution subscribes to, and what the platform does and does not do.
Your library sign-in stays with you
A subscription is between you and your institution. The platform does not store a library username or password, does not sign in to a publisher for you, and does not route requests through a library proxy.
An institutional e-mail address does not by itself give you licensed access to journals. Access comes from signing in with your own institution in your own browser.
What the link carries
For a paper it cannot obtain automatically, the platform gives you a link to your library or to the publisher page. The link carries only what is needed to find the article: its DOI, or the journal, volume, issue, pages, year and title.
Nothing about your project travels with the link.
The route, step by step
Each step is shown on the full-text page and recorded.
- The platform finds no legal automatic route: no open copy and no licensed publisher service.
- The paper joins the manual list with the reason.
- You open the link, sign in with your institution as usual, and download the PDF if your subscription covers it.
- You upload the file. It is matched to the paper, and an uncertain match waits for your confirmation.
- The upload is recorded with who did it and when.
When your institution does not subscribe
The paper stays on the manual list and the gap stays visible. How much of the literature you can cover depends partly on your institution’s subscriptions, and hiding the gap would change what your dataset means.
Interlibrary loan is a legitimate route, and a file obtained that way can be uploaded like any other. The platform records the route you state; it does not check your licence.
