Analysing and writing
Writer: manuscripts and citations
Write a manuscript in your project, cite papers from its library, and export a file anyone can open.
Writing
Start a manuscript with a title and a citation style. The editor has headings, lists, tables, figures with captions, subscript and superscript, a symbol picker, find and replace, a word count and an outline.
Your work saves itself a few seconds after you stop typing. Save a named version before a big change; you can preview and restore any version.
Citing
Press "Cite" and choose one or more papers from this project’s library. You can add a page, table or figure. A citation can only point to a paper that is in the library; nothing is ever made up.
The citation text and the reference list are built for you from the library record. If you correct a paper’s details in the library, the manuscript follows. If a cited paper is removed, its citation shows "[reference unavailable]" and is listed under Problems.
- Built-in styles: APA 7th, Harvard, Vancouver, IEEE, ACS and Nature. Switching style rewrites every citation and the reference list.
- Other style files cannot be loaded yet. You can export the reference list as RIS, BibTeX or CSL-JSON for a reference manager.
Finding support for a statement
"Find supporting sources" searches the documents and abstracts in this project for a sentence you select or type, and lists the passages it finds with a link to each. It adds nothing by itself: you choose which paper to cite. If nothing matches, it says so.
"Insert value" adds a verified value with its unit and a citation to the paper it came from.
Comments and sharing
Owners and editors write. Reviewers can comment on selected text, and anyone who can comment can mark a comment as resolved. Viewers can read. Everyone in the project sees the same manuscript; if two people save at once, the second is asked whether to open the newer version or keep theirs as a copy, so nothing is overwritten silently.
Exporting
Export as Word, PDF, a web page, Markdown or plain text. The file contains the citations and the reference list as ordinary text, so it can be read without this platform. Check the exported file before submitting it: the PDF layout is simple and does not hyphenate.
